Chairman and Co-Founder
Charles
Sweeney is widely regarded as a visionary in the hotel industry,
and one of its most successful developers and entrepreneurs.
He is recognized for his development of luxury and upscale hotels
and resorts, for his ability to build strong management teams,
for strategic operations planning and for his branding and marketing
skills. He accurately anticipated, during its infancy, the then
untapped market demand for the all-suite hotel, and co-founded,
developed and presided over an all-suite hotel company that
was sold in early 1996 for approximately US$500 million. During
his career, Mr. Sweeney has conceptualized, developed, and operated
54 hotels and resorts throughout the continental U.S. and Hawaii
with approximately 16,000 guest rooms/suites, at an estimated
aggregate development cost of more than US$1 billion.
Prior to
the formation of Trinity, Mr. Sweeney (1) joined and advanced
to become President of Amfac's Hotel and Resort Group, directing
the business affairs of the company's portfolio of 17 hotels
with 8,000 rooms; (2) created and presided over Landmark Suites
of America, a hotel development and management company that
became the largest franchisee of Granada Royale Hometels (predecessor
to the Embassy Suites Chain); (3) co-developed a new hotel brand,
Crown Sterling Suites, where as President, he directed the company's
business affairs, including the management of 19 hotels located
across the U.S.; and (4) conceived and developed numerous all-suite
resorts, including Embassy Suites Kaanapali, Maui, the award
winning Kea Lani Resort, Wailea, Maui, and the Pointe at Poipu,
Kauai.
Mr. Sweeney
started his career with the Marriott Corporation. He received
his degree in Hotel Administration from Paul Smith College,
New York, and is a graduate of Harvard University's Advanced
Management Program.
JON T.
MIHO
President and Co-Founder
Mr. Miho
has in excess of 30 years of comprehensive real estate and hotel
transaction experience, with an emphasis on legal aspects. As
a founding partner of a major Honolulu-based law firm, he developed
unique expertise in managing the complexities of international
business transactions, utilizing his background, experience,
and skills not only as a lawyer with a keen understanding of
business, but also as a skilled negotiator in dealing with foreign
parties. He has been engaged as lead counsel in over $2 billion
worth of real estate and hotel transactions, including a majority
of the more noteworthy transactions consummated in Hawaii during
the past 20 years.
Prior to
the formation of Trinity, Mr. Miho served as assistant to both
U.S. Senator Hiram Fong and the U.S. Attorney in Honolulu, and
co-founded McCorriston Miho Miller Mukai, a Honolulu-based law
firm with 46 attorneys specializing in real estate law, international
business and litigation. Mr. Miho retired as a partner in McCorriston
Miho Miller Mukai to become the President of Trinity.
Mr. Miho
is admitted to the Hawaii Bar and is a member of the Hawaii
and American Bar Associations. He graduated from The Wharton
School, University of Pennsylvania, with a Bachelor of Science
Degree in Economics, and received his Juris Doctorate from the
Hastings College of the Law, University of California, San Francisco.

KARL ESSIG
Principal
Based in Honolulu, Mr. Essig has been involved with Trinity’s real estate acquisitions and financings since 2005.
Prior to joining Trinity, he worked for Morgan Stanley for more than 25 years, during which he advised on and arranged financial transactions for major companies and governments from offices in London, New York and Tokyo. Beginning in 1987, he sequentially founded Morgan Stanley’s securitization businesses in the U.S., Europe and Asia and from 1998 through 2001 served as co-head of the Firm’s Securitized Products Group, with responsibility for the origination, execution, trading and principal financing activity associated with this global business.
In 2002, he was named one of the top100 Euromarket personalities and one of the top 10 Structured Finance personalities in the previous 15 years by Euroweek magazine.
Mr. Essig has an undergraduate degree from Stanford University and a graduate degree from the Yale School of Management.
SEAN A.
HEHIR
Principal & Managing Director
Based in New York, Mr. Hehir has more than 12 years of experience in real estate investment and asset management. He is responsible for overseeing the firm’s investment activities including sourcing and executing investment opportunities, formulating investment strategy and structuring acquisitions and dispositions.
Mr. Hehir has executed over US$3.0 billion of global real estate transactions, including the sale of the Rafael Hotel Group to Mandarin Oriental Hotels,the sale of The Kea Lani Resort to Fairmont Hotels & Resorts, and the acquisition of the Kahala Hotel & Resort. As a partner in Trinity Hotel Investors L.L.C. he was involved in the formation of Leading Hotel Fund Advisors, Ltd., a European hotel investment vehicle formed between affiliates of The Leading Hotels of the World, Ltd. and Trinity Hotel Investors L.L.C.
Prior to joining Trinity, Mr. Hehir worked for HVS International as a Senior Associate performing in-depth market studies, financial analyses, income and expense projections, valuations and feasibility studies, competitive market and property positioning studies, and operational reviews for hotels ranging from limited service to full service corporate and resort properties. Mr. Hehir holds a Diploma in Hotel Administration from the Hotel Institute Montreux, Switzerland and is a graduate of Cornell University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Hotel Administration.

KEVIN HAYASHI
Vice President
Director of Finance
Based in Honolulu, Mr. Hayashi has over 18 years experience in the fields of Public and Private Accounting. As Trinity's Director of Finace, he supervises Trinity's financial management and partnership relationships. Prior to joining Trinity, Mr. Hayashi was an Audit Manager for the international accounting firm of Price Waterhouse LLP, where he oversaw audits for multinational companies with activity in Hawaii and Micronesia. He has been involved in international audits for banks and financial institutions, agricultural companies, real estate and construction firms, media, hotels and travel companies, the services industry, and high-technology manufacturers, as well as county and state government.
Mr. Hayashi, a Certified Public Accountant, graduated from the University of Hawaii at Manoa with a Bachelor of Business Administration Degree in Accounting.
Mr. Donn has eight years of experience in hospitality real estate, including transaction experience exceeding $1.2 billion in value. He is based in New York, and is responsible for sourcing, underwriting, and executing transactions, and overseeing the firm’s asset management functions.
Prior to his joining Trinity, Mr. Donn focused on transaction execution at Hotel Capital Advisers, Inc. (hotel investment advisors to Prince Alwaleed), including single-asset deals and the take-private of Four Seasons Hotels Inc. Mr. Donn began his career with PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP’s Hospitality & Leisure consulting practice, specializing in lodging and gaming real estate valuation and litigation support services.
Mr. Donn is a former instructor of New York University’s hospitality program. He earned his Bachelor’s degree with a concentration in real estate from the School of Hotel Administration at Cornell University, and is a Cornell Tradition Fellow.

DEANNA
ODA
Partnership Controller
Ms. Oda has more than 18 years of experience in the fields of Private and Public Accounting. She is responsible for partnership accounting and overseeing partnership tax matters. Prior to joining Trinity, Ms. Oda was a Senior Auditor for the international accounting firm of Ernst & Young LLP. She oversaw audits for hotel and travel companies, healthcare, state government, banks and financial institutions, as well as retail companies. She also spent six years in the health care industry supervising the consolidation of health care entities and cash management.
Ms. Oda, a Certified Public Accountant, graduated from the University of Hawaii at Manoa with a Bachelor of Business Administration Degree in Accounting.
